2017 Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes 1er (Pre-arrival)

I hadn’t revisited the 2017 Rully 1er Cru Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes since I last reviewed it in these pages, and I was delighted to find it showing so well. The wine has shut down a little in bottle but unwinds in the glass to reveal scents of Anjou pear, white flowers, lemon curd, vanilla pod and toasted almonds. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, its textural and enveloping attack segueing into a taut, chiseled mid-palate, underpinned by tangy acids and framed by chalky structuring extract. This is a touch more introverted than the 2018 and 2019, but I suspect it will prove the greatest of this extraordinary trio with extended bottle age. The 2017 was picked on September 6.
