NV La Rogerie Champagne le Bourg Sud

Decanter 95 – “A new release based on the hot and dry 2022 vintage, this vivid, deep and layered blanc de blancs presents the finest release yet from hotly tipped growers with vineyards based in the grand cru village of Avize. Bourg Sud comes from the vineyards heading towards Oger. It has an entrancing balance between energy of fruit and layered complexity, even at such a young age. There are flavours of toasted hazelnut and brown pastry with a beautifully measured oak influence. It never strays from the verve and vinosity of ultra-ripe, crunchy apricot and lemon-zest Chardonnay fruit. It’s a highly expressive Champagne but one that doesn’t overstep the mark in either ripeness or vinification. Earmark this for anywhere you’d pour a fine still Chardonnay at the table. There’s no need to age this for a long time, either. (Drink between 2025-2030).”

Wine Advocate 95 – “Based on the 2022 vintage and disgorged in January 2025 with a dosage of 1.5 grams per liter, the NV Blanc de Blancs Bourg/Sud reveals a deep bouquet of orange oil, freshly baked bread, pear and early-blooming spring flowers. It is medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with a palate laden with ripe yet racy acids and framed by chalky structuring extract that imparts a compensatory impression of freshness, culminating in a long, saline finish. The 2022 vintage represents the first to be vinified in the new winery and also marks a considerable increase in the proportion of reserve wines, which has risen to 40%. As readers will recall from my previous writing, this cuvée is born from the division of La Rogerie’s Lieux de Vie: the new Bourg/Sud is sourced from sites in the southern part of the estate and is heavily based on Avize fruit..”
